Their forced death march after the defeat was incredibly brutal and not often talked about. Read Bernard Fall "Hell Is A Very Small Place" or "Street Without Joy" (available at Amazon). He is often refered by Americans as the best writer on Indo China and the lessons learned. Many say that his books should have been forced to read before the US went in.

Le Chant des Partisans was the hymn of the French Resistance, who fought for victory and liberation of France. Then the same men had to fight against another kind of resistance for the liberation of a country.

I have spent several months in the UK and France. The British are great and so are the French. I hate to say it but once you get out of Paris, France is very pleasant, the people friendly and outgoing. I loved my stay in both countries.

As for the most important point of this message, The US and our true brothers and comrades in arms the UK are knee deep in the mistake of Iraq. However, we need to finish this terrible mistake as soon as possible. In some aspects I think the French were trying to warn us about getting involved in a ground war in SW Asia.
