A word about technology

A brief word about PaveFrance. As you may know - this site runs on Movable Type, a great content management system that allows us to bring you Frog Bashing 24/7. Unfortunately, that company has changed its pricing structure and licensing in a way that will actually prohibit us from continuing to upgrade our technology. Check out their license options: none of them fit us, as we're not commercial, yet have more than 9 authors.

Never fear, we're not going anywhere - but we'll not be continuing with Movable Type.

I moved to WordPress a few months ago, and it was the best thing that happened to my blog. I wrote a How To move from Movable Type to WordPress over at my blog, which might be of interest to you.
WordPress lets me do everything MT did, and the support and user community positively rock!

Might I suggest postnuke or phpnuke?

Posted by: ciaran on May 16, 2004 11:13 AM

I think this blog should close.
Or, change subject and title, considering the torures that occur daily in Iraq.
All these event brought the shame on the whole US and revealed the real nature of US action.
In any case, they want to "Help Iraqians". US considers Iraqians as shit, and all these pictures prove it.

I suggest a new title fot the site :

"Pave the United States, The Quebecois need more parking".

"I think this blog should close."

Good thing that the French don't run the world then eh? Can't respond intelligently, can't prove us wrong? The next best thing is to curtail free speech? I am just trying to understand the harm that this site does to France. Is it that it breaks Le Monde's monopoly on what the French people can know? That's my personal opinion.

"The Quebecois need more parking"

Do they? Have you seen the tiny little shitboxes they drive? We would be cleaning up rust stains all the time.

Speaking of Quebecois, the "Triumph the insult dog" episode of Conan O'Brian's show was played again the other day. It was even funnier the second time.

Marc

How are things going for you? I am courious what life is like for the ave. French munitions manufacturer. Business is good?
What are your thoughts on the 35 hour work week?
Are you a member of a trade union? Will you be picketing if the Government lifts the 35 hour rule?
How are you culping with the rail bomb threats? Have they changed your commuting habits?
Would you say the liberation of Iraq has icreased criminal behavior among French muslims, or has it retarded? Have you been, or do you know anyone who has been assaulted due to their religious beliefs?

There is much for us to talk about Marc. This blog keeps us in touch.

You would make a fine prison interogator, Papertiger. Maybe the US army needs you ;-)

Posted by: zoomerx on May 20, 2004 06:24 PM

How are things going for you?
Fine thanks

French munitions manufacturer. Business is good?
yes not too bad, and what about yours, always manufacturing landmines?

What are your thoughts on the 35 hour work week? Will you be picketing if the Government lifts the 35 hour rule?
The idea was not stupid, but it's not creating employment so..no

How are you culping with the rail bomb threats? Have they changed your commuting habits?
There is no more rail bomb threat.

Would you say the liberation of Iraq has icreased criminal behavior among French muslims, or has it retarded?
you mean Occupation of Iraq

Have you been, or do you know anyone who has been assaulted due to their religious beliefs?
No.

Any AMTRACK crash lately, papertiger?

Posted by: zoomerx on May 20, 2004 07:41 PM

Your not Marc.

I don't ride AMTRAC, but if I did and some terrorist group was planting bombs on the track I would be keenly interested.

Posted by: Papertiger on May 20, 2004 08:13 PM

"The idea was not stupid"

What would it take, in your opinion, for an idea to be stupid then. Any freshman economics major could have told you that it would not increase employment. By what proven theory could it ever work?

Posted by: moptop on May 20, 2004 09:05 PM

There is no more rail bomb threat.

"Every era dictates its own political divisons. In the 19th century Great Britain, the politacl fight centered on the Corn Laws, reform bills and home rule for Ireland. Many of the old splits have vanished in Europe, but this new divide is both wider and more vital. Jacques Chirac is on the right is against intervention while Labour's Tony Blair is for it. The consequences of Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero caving in after the Madrid attack have yet to be felt, but I have no doubt that we will be facing more attacks in Europe bassed on the terrorists' reading of the weakness of European leaders."

From WSJ. I think Europe may indeed see more rail attacks.

Posted by: andy on May 21, 2004 05:24 AM

I think this blog should close.

You only wish your little fantasy of yours could come true. It pains you that we're still here, huh? You hate our way of life, so you support the terrorists. Guess what? We want nothing of the scourges of Old Europe: Do-nothing princes and princesses, Marxism, Fascism, Anti-Americanism. I'm convinced that some of your so-called politicians and so-called persons of stature are helping in that next terrorist plot. Nothing is out of the realm of possibility when it comes to French Anti-Americanism. It's my greatest hope that it'll be stopped before that plan goes any further...and then trace it all the way back to those individuals in question. Then, what would the Anti-American Le Monde would say? What would the Anti-American Liberation would say? Or any other Anti-American rags you call the press there? Of course, they'll try to make the guilty ones look like heroes and parade them in front of the depraved elitist set, but the powerful truth would then be revealed to all those who want to learn it. Hopefully, by then, the State Dept. would come out of their political correctness and grow some cojones in order to deal with the treacherous ones the way they should have been dealt with in the first place.

Pro-Freedom. Pro-progress. Pro-American. Anti-French-supported terrorism.

"I have no doubt that we will be facing more attacks in Europe bassed on the terrorists' reading of the weakness of European leaders."

Bullshit. Ariel Sharon is a "strong" leader, but Israel is the first target in the world for terrorists....
If The "weakness" consists in keeping our soldiers at home and not to send them torture muslims abroad, it is the good strategy.

Posted by: Marc Levis on May 22, 2004 10:25 AM

"Ariel Sharon is a strong leader"
Besieged on all sides by the muslims. Denegrated by Europeans (admittedly an improvement over past treatment). Forbidden from doing business in France. World organizations roll called always to condemn him for just existing and/or trying to preserve that condition. His own party denying his proposals when he walks the harrowing fine line between projecting strength and conseeding land. Being compared to the worst villians of history. Never getting a fair hearing in the world's press. While that same press raises the true villians arrayed against him and his little band to heroic status for murdering school aged, elderly, and the defenceless of his society.

Ariel has to be strong, because he can not count on others to do what is right. I think Mr. Sharon's greatest strength may be his ability to tell right from wrong, and his willingness to use these principles though the government of Israel.

If only Europeans had this ability then we really wouldn't have need of this blog anymore.

Posted by: Papertiger on May 23, 2004 07:16 AM

Sharon is a war criminal, responsible of hundreds civilian deaths.

Some europeans have this ability, look Milosevic.

We have a saying about French technology. "The French copy nobody and nobody copies the French." It is not a complement.

What do you think did in the airport terminal? Bad design, or bribed inspectors? Was it the construction inspected up to "oil for food" standards? Will time tell us? Do you trust your govt to tell you the truth?

Just wondering...

Posted by: drive-by on May 23, 2004 11:29 AM

I guess that Kerry is Disqualified to replace him then.

Or did you not read about that one anywhere?

Posted by: moptop on May 23, 2004 12:58 PM

Do you trust your govt to tell you the truth?
The governement has nothing to really tell about an accident in a terminal, except it is sorry for the victims.
People involved in this accident may be inspectors, or builder, or architect, and the justice will tell it.

"The French copy nobody and nobody copies the French."
It's really nice sentence. We copy nobody because we have sufficient knowledge and skill to do everything alone . And nobody copy us, because others are simply unable to do what we do !
very nice.

Posted by: Marc Levis on May 24, 2004 02:42 AM

nobody copies the French

wrong ! there is a game called "Tempête sur l'échiquier" that have been adapted for the US with "Knightmare chess".

The proof

Posted by: Max on May 24, 2004 12:08 PM

Do you trust your govt to tell you the truth?

Why not Drive-by? There are allegations that a quick completion was pressured by Air France. Perhaps faulty design or a combination of both. France btw, is the world leader in construction materials, especially concrete (re-inforced concrete is a French invention).

Posted by: zoomerx on May 25, 2004 03:44 AM

"and the justice will tell it."

Any Jews or Americans involved will be quickly identified and blamed. I am sure that it has something to do with all of the fat Americans who mainly used the terminal. ;·)

"France btw, is the world leader in construction materials, especially concrete"

I guess you are right, as the structural integrity of the terminal showed.

Posted by: moptop on May 25, 2004 07:29 AM

yes and Microsoft is leader in operating systems..no one is perfect you know.

Posted by: Max on May 25, 2004 02:32 PM

Not even NASA.

Posted by: zoomerx on May 25, 2004 08:23 PM

Yes, just think how much concrete went into the Maginot line.

Speaking of, I have a question. I picked up a book on the Maginot line today, written in 1961. Used, of course. It says, at that time (early sixties), that NATO was using some of the fortifications for storage only.

Is any part of the Maginot line used now for anything, or has it all been destroyed?

Posted by: andy on May 25, 2004 09:28 PM

Its still there, if you want to take a tour (or go around it) ;-)

Posted by: zoomerx on May 26, 2004 04:55 AM

At least with NASA, we were trying to do something that had never been done before.

Posted by: moptop on May 26, 2004 09:42 AM

space fried chickens?

Posted by: Max on May 26, 2004 12:30 PM

At least with NASA, we were trying to do something that had never been done before.

So was the CDG futuristic design, not to compare the two. It's what happens sometimes when you push the limits.

Posted by: zoomerx on May 26, 2004 02:02 PM

I have to give you that one zoomer, sort of.

As for 'space fried chickens', I didn't know there were any Europeans on the flight.

Posted by: moptop on May 26, 2004 02:45 PM

Here is a story from Iran that you may not have seen in your French press. I offer it here as a service to La France.

AS STUDENTS WARN OF LARGE DEMONSTRATIONS, AQAJARI REJECTS APPEAL

He has dared to Mullahs to free him or kill him. Would any man do the same for the EU? These are the people that you root against when you take the sides of these totalitarian regimes. Read the story. How many brave men like this did Saddam kill?

Posted by: moptop on May 26, 2004 03:01 PM

Thanks for the Maginot link zoomerx. Pretty good pix in there.

Posted by: andy on May 26, 2004 09:51 PM

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant, moptop. It's heartening to read about persons who are willing to give their lives for the principle of freedom. Unlike the enemies of the United States who would rather see us all dead.

Posted by: Pro-Freedom on May 31, 2004 02:47 AM

Sort of like bombing innocent Iraki civilians and expecting them to welcome you with flowers, eh pro-"Freedom"?....

Look at the context , moron, France lost 300,000 civilians in WW2, with some of the largest casualties around D-Day. How would you feel if your entire family had been wiped out by "allied" fire, would you react rationally? Does your example represent the vast majority of how France felt? Of course not, you little weasel.
