French Hypocrisy Outraged By American Amendment

The UN -- and its French boosters -- wants to make abortions symbolic, stylish, and inevitable.

FRANCE SLAMS US ABORTION REVISION AT UN MEETING

A US attempt to insert language restricting abortion rights into documents prepared by a conference marking the 10th anniversary of a meeting in Beijing has sparked a determined response from European delegates as well as representatives of non-governmental organisations.

More than 150 such groups taking part in the conference that is examining the status of women a decade after the Beijing conference issued a statement Tuesday condemning the proposed US amendment.

Nicole Ameline, the French Minister of Parity and Professional Equality, pointed out that the European Union and France, in particular, were opposed to the US amendment.

"France considers the Beijing Platform an achievement," the minister said at a press conference. "We are open to dialogue, but we also remain firm. It appears important to us to be able to adopt a new declaration without giving the world the impression that we are stepping back."

First, AFP couldn't be bothered interviewing anyone supporting the American position. Second, the Beijing conference never established a universal right to abortion, though it seems the Session of the Commission on the Status of Women has cooked one up. Third, who's kidding who?

An aide to the minister explained that women's reproductive rights, as formulated in the Beijing Platform allow countries to legalise abortion but do not force them to do so.

Meanwhile, the US amendment will open the door to abortion bans, the aide pointed out.

Huh? Let's see, the Beijing Platform allows countries to legalise abortion but does not force them to do so. (Apparently sovereign nations lack the legal wherewithal to make abortion legal at present. Flare to America. Flare to France.) So if a country choses not to legalize abortion, that is it withholds the protections of law, France is OK with that? Well, that disqualifies abortion as a right, as rights are warrants in law. Now, if abortion is not some agreed on right then why would its proscription be any more controversal than its sanction? Well, weary reader, because the EU and France, in particular, realize securing a universal abortion right is incremental going. First things first, ban bans.

The EU and France, in particular, want a choice to legalise or not legalise, a distinction without a difference as abortions that are not legal are not illegal, they are, what? Legal-free abortions? Although a small, albeit unintended, victory for de-regulation, this is the sort of mud that produces ridiculous, conflicted jurisprudent mud from the benches of Europe. Of course, as soon as the Euro and French, in particular, established powers think they can get away with it they'll clear everything up with term-free on-demand socially sanctioned scaling to socially preferred to socially coerced abortions. Little wonder France sees China -- not America -- as her new soul mate.

But France and America are great buds, so what's a little condemnation of America? Strangely, the Algerian response to the UN questionnaire to Member States on implementation at the national level of the Beijing Platform for Action has zero mentions of abortion. France and Algeria are good buds, too. We suppose France will get around to condemning her backward friend Algeria soon enough.

france and algeria good friends? apparently you know nothing about how french officals view Algerians, the Algerian independence movement or the large influx of Maghrebs into France in recents years. Seems to me that when you look more closely..France and Algeria aren't so buddy-buddy.
