It has been awhile since we checked in on French confidence in their immunity to Islamite terrorism. A year on the French general public seems to realize that a national policy of cozying up to Islamite terrorists at best only puts kafir France at the back of the Islamite throat-cutting line. At worse, it disgraces France, gains her nothing, and emboldens the terrorists.
October 9, 2005 (Guardian) - There are plenty of signs that Paris could be next. French intelligence agents found a message on an Arabic website from the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat, a demented Algerian outfit which is close to al-Qaeda. France was 'our first enemy', the terrorists said. The 'only way to discipline France is jihad, martyrdom and Islam'.At the end of last month, French police arrested nine alleged Islamists in a suburb of Paris and claimed they were planning to bomb the Metro. Nicolas Sarkozy, the French Interior minister, said the risk of an attack was currently 'at a very high level'. Marc Hecker, from the French Institute for International Relations, said it was 'a real error' to believe that France would be left in peace because President Chirac opposed the Iraq War.
And who better to give expression to the emergent fears of the French public than blathering clueless Jack.
Nothing To Fear But Unspecific Soundbites
FRANCE IN A 'SITUATION OF FEAR' OVER TERROR: CHIRAC
PARIS October 17, 2005 (AFP) - France is "still in a situation of fear" that attacks will be made against it, even though there are no specific threats identified, president Jacques Chirac said Monday."There are no specific reasons (for the fear), but there is a permanent reason," he said as he toured a police anti-terrorist centre in Paris with interior minister Nicolas Sarkozy and defence minister Michele Alliot-Marie. ... "France has known attacks in the past and it must do everything to prepare for the crises they can provoke."
France currently has its terrorist attack alert at "red", the second level on a four-point scale.
Hhmmm, a permanent reason? That would seem pretty specific. And why is Jack emphasizing "doing everything" to prepare for the consequent "crises" rather than "doing everything" to prevent the antecedent "attacks"?
Nothing To Fear But Real Threats
FRANCE FACES 'REAL' THREAT OF TERROR ATTACK: CHIRAC
PARIS October 26, 2005 (AFP) - "The terrorist threat is real. We must remain fully mobilised," said [President Jacques ] Chirac, speaking as the cabinet examined a slew of draft anti-terrorism measures."We must keep adapting our systems to the evolving threat. We must be constantly anticipating" potential menaces, Chirac said.
Draft measures being put before the cabinet for approval on Wednesday include stepped-up video surveillance and police access to Internet and mobile telephone records.
That was quick. From non-specific fears to unspecified real threats.
The French, who will devote whole careers to paddling through Maurice Blanchot, let Jack's mumbly soundbites slip in one ear and out another without so much as a "Huh?".
Perhaps the French simply accept that when Jack is speaking nothing is being said.
