The newspapers do not do justice to Tuesday's mêlée in the Assemblée nationale.
Here is the Must-See TV.
Open on an animated M. Hollande finger-stabbing the air and flapping papers, pronouncing against the government. Behind him a bobble-head deputy nods in cadence. M. Hollande finishes up and takes his seat.
Cut to Dom taking the floor like a spavined panther, drawing himself up before the microphone, collecting all his poetical powers. On his mental stage he quickly rehearses the necessary dramatics. The hands briefly caress the microphone stem, suddenly fly out, then forward, find each other and clasp. He leans into the microphone and begins.
He begins slowly, but soon warms to his topic. On his beetled brow are gathering the frustrations and anger of his tenure. M. Hollande quietly looks on perplexed by Dom's bewildering -- and increasingly heated -- response. Carried away, you can see Dom suddenly discover his line of attack.
"Je dénonce la facilité, et je dirai même en vous regardant, la lâcheté, la lâcheté qu'il y a dans votre attitude. Je le redis, la lâcheté."
The people's house erupts. The opposition is on its feet, booing, heckling, jeering. Dom cries again and again, La lâcheté ! La lâcheté ! [Cowardice! Cowardice!], to which the confused opposition shouts back "Ah aussi à vous !" [Yeah, same to you!]. Small and vulnerable in the well of the hémicycle, Dom tries to continue over the commotion and -- the video abruptly ends.
Oh. Check out the natty spring pastels of the opposition, looks like the 19th hole at Le Fontainebleau Club de Golf.
