"Persistent And Recurring Difficulties"

The socialist paradise that is France is a super great place. If you have no aspirations. If you are indifferent to disruptions to public services. If you are not a Jew. Or a minority.

And you stay clear of the police.

FRENCH POLICE ACCUSED OF BRUTALITY

February 13, 2006 (Telegraph) - France, which sees itself as a bastion of human rights, has received embarrassingly low marks on the subject in a Council of Europe report to be released this week.

Acutely overpopulated prisons, a "glaringly" under-funded justice system, summary expulsions of asylum seekers and police brutality are among the shortcomings listed in the report by Human Rights Commissioner Alvaro Gil-Robles. French police, it says, operate with a "sense of impunity", helping to explain a 34 per cent rise in complaints of police mistreatment last year.

The document refers to "persistent and recurring difficulties" reflected in the high number of cases brought in recent years before the European Court of Human Rights. "There is a widening gap in several areas between the text of the law and what is actually practised," the report states.

A two-week inspection of seven prisons and five police precincts last September form the basis of the report. The visits clearly appalled Mr Gil-Robles, who calls for the immediate closure of a retention centre for foreigners situated directly under Paris's Palais de Justice, which he describes as "catastrophic and unworthy of France".

The report also lambasts France's weak reaction to anti-Semitic and racist crimes, and the discriminatory treatment of gipsies.

Yes. Well. One expects these occasional bad domestic report cards when one is absorbed in the important business of drawing up seating charts for multipolar world sit-downs. Oh! Almost forgot: Abu Ghraib! Abu Ghraib!

Silly me, I was under the impression that only British poodles conducted these type of activities.

If you are not a Jew. Or a minority

Or have a mulsim sounding name. Or are PR4 because you are not BBR. That makes you NBBR.

PAVE could be worthy of a Molière play, in which the protagonist (the excellent Damian Bennett, in the role of Chef de la police des mœurs) is blinded by his own hypocrisy and conrtradictions, the joke of course, being on himself.

zoomerx, where have you been? I saw you post over at e-nough on one of your troll escapades....

Now don't be stealing my Molière stuff! :)

Ah, M. Zmx -- the franchouille who believes his bigotries represent the excellencies of tolerance -- holds us to account for a claim made by the Human Rights Commissioner of the Council of Europe. But not a peep from M. Zmx about the substance of the charge.

M. Zmx thinks us hypocritical that we do not take the time, like him, to do a cursory Google search for something equally damning in America. Of course that is not Pave's mission. We encourage M. Zmx to start his own blog with its own mission.

But M. Zmx has no blog. So he obliges a link. As so often with M. Zmx, he links but does not read.

Five churches with predominantly African-American congregations and four with predominantly white ones have been set on fire in central and western Alabama.

M. Zmx suggests this is an instance of racism in America.

Regarding the first five fires:

Unlike a string of black church burnings in Alabama in 1996, only one of the churches set aflame Friday has a predominantly black congregation. Besides being Baptist churches, the only other common denominator is the churches are located in rural communities. "I don't think there's anything thus far to suggest a hate crime," said Mark Potok, director of the Intelligence Project at the Southern Poverty Law Center. The Intelligence Project monitors hate groups across the country.

It is undetermined if the church fire reported in M. Zmx's link was arson (i.e., a crime) or "whether it was related to the other church fires". The report does not identify the congregation of this church as black. There is no mention in the report about hate crime. Yet M. Zmx jumps to these conclusions based on... Why, based on his clutch of bigotries.

There are those who insist M. Zmx is Pave's invention, an object of fun inserted into the threads to make the French seem even more ridiculous than we assert.

We assure all, M. Zmx is his own joke.

Ah... the ever so puritanical "Hollier Than Thou" Damian Bennett... American bastion of Morality... The Don Qixiote of French anti-Americanism... a Houdini in his own mind. Racism? Violence in America? Pouf! Gone! Doesn't exist!

There are those who insist M. Zmx...

Who, who among your five readers, Mr Bennett, would say such a despicable thing?

Bonjour,
