DES ÉMEUTIERS VIOLENTS, MAIS BIEN INSÉRÉS
[VIOLENT RIOTERS, BUT WELL INTEGRATED]
May 19, 2006 (Le Figaro) - According to a study undertaken in Yvelines on the turmoil of November, six out of ten casseurs [scil., rioters, alluding to their talents as stone-throwers and vandals] had a criminal record. Among these, a majority of youths of foreign origin, often coming from large families.Ring leader, ironmonger, disc jockey, mechanic, student, workman... The profiles emerging from the study of the Yvelines police force on the November rioters hold many surprises. According to this document, which constitutes the only concrete analysis on the players in these events currently available to the Ministry of the Interior, more than two thirds of the detained youths were socially integrated. Proof that delinquency does not inevitably rhyme with unemployment.
In Yvelines eight casseurs in ten questioned [interpellés] for flagrant offences ran wild in their own districts. Which demolishes the theory that the attacks were imported from other cities.
Moreover these youths were not first-offenders: six out of ten "had been blamed already in legal procedures sent to the ministry [parquet]". With about half of them " charged on four counts and more". ... This study radically questions the analysis of the central Management of general information which presented the majority of the rioters as first-offenders [primodélinquants].
The controller [Christian Sonrier, author of the report] states: His study "does not define with finality a standard profile for the rioter". But the reported figures are unambiguous: that 98% of the rioters stopped were French, about two thirds were of African or North-African origin. "In Mureaux, 14 of the 25 people questioned live within large families made up from 6 to 16 people", reveals the police officer.*
According to his count, about half of the questioned young people "were integrated in educational structures". For youths of school age, Sonrier contacted the school inspectorate in order to find out more. And he states: "They are described by the teachers as insolent, provocative, disturbing, generally not recognizing the authority of the professors and the adults." The police officer continues: "Their chaotic school course has produced multiple reports, warnings for discipline and work, temporary and even final exclusion and disciplinary boards for two of them." Faced with the school absenteeism, "the contacts with the families appear difficult or impossible: they answer neither the mail from the educational authorities nor summons".
Even here, Le Figaro maintains the quaint press euphemism "youths", when what is clearly being spoken about are disaffected Arabs and Africans, the majority of whom are Muslim. Here is Michel Gurfinkiel last November:
How ethnic is the present violence in France? Liberal commentators, both in France and abroad, tend to say that poverty and unemployment, rather than race or religion, are the driving force behind the riots. Mr. Villepin himself tends to share this view, at least in part. [Cf. footnote below.] He said yesterday on TV that he is earmarking enormous credits for housing rehabilitation, education, and state-supported jobs in the areas where the unrest has developed. But the fact remains that only ethnic youths are rioting, that most of them explicitly pledge allegiance to Islam and such Muslim heroes as Osama bin Laden, that the Islamic motto - Allahu Akbar - is usually their war cry, and that they submit only to archconservative or radical imams. The fact also remains, according to many witnesses, that the rioters torch only "white" cars, meaning white owned cars, and spare "Islamic" or "black" ones. One way to discriminate between them is to look for ethnic signs like a sticker with Koranic verses or a picture of the Kaaba in Mekka or a stylized map of Africa.

It is a point of pride to France that only nondescript French live in France. We suppose this is what passes for high-minded Republicanism among the political class. It also provides an all-purpose denial for France's patent racism: "Racism? France makes no distinction among races. How can she know who to slight, who to neglect? There's no racism in France."
Until France starts making distinctions among her citizens she cannot rehabilitate the disaffected and alienated French, which in turn makes Frenchness a flashpoint for the disaffected and alienated. Warehoused in huddles of concrete boxes, without the protections or reponsibilities of law, without opportunities in education, without all the state goodies bestowed on privileged nativists, without futures, these folk rightly feel excluded from the fabled good life of France.
Of course they riot. Rioting affords them an identity as Islamite bad boys, as petit mujahedeen, as recreational terrorists. Radical imams shape and encourage their identities while France pretends they have none.
* For a very different perspective, here is Dom on 11.29.05 covering the same ground:De Villepin: I am not sure you can call them riots. It's very different from the situation you have known in 1992 in L.A. for example. [Once again, America is called on to authenticate and be the measure of the French experience.]...
Amanpour: What do you call it then?
De Villepin: Social unrest, you have to understand also, there were no guns in the streets. No adults; mostly young people between 12 and 20 ... so it is very special movement.
De Villepin: ...We have to say that, and it is important to also understand the real nature of these movements, there is no ethnic or religious basis of this movement, as we can see in some other parts of the world. But it is true that the feeling of discrimination, the feeling of maybe not having the same equal chance... but what is interesting, is that most of these young people, they want to be 100 percent French.

Bonjour ,
Good luck to your country in Irak !

Well, fair is fair. Since the French discriminate against the muslims in housing, jobs, etc, it is only fair that the muslims discriminate right back!
Good luck to your country (well, still yours for just a little while longer) in the continuing Islamization of Europe.

Well, we all have our own little problems, don't we Damian?
Good luck for your country in Irak !!!

Bonjour,

The only reason this would happen would be to soothe the mulsims that would be running France. Otherwise, why would they bother? Really, who would care?
Good luck to your country in the continuing Islamization of Europe.

Bonjour,
"The only reason this would happen would be to soothe the mulsims that would be running France. Otherwise, why would they bother? Really, who would care? "
Good luck to (?) your country in Irak !
