Putting The Boot In Redux

First, Iran plays France for a fool three years running (start here and work your way back). Next Iran pimp-slaps the pimp-slapper. Then out of nowhere -- and contrary to French pieties -- a prominent Iranian calls for an American invasion of Iran. [An anguished pause.] An Iranian! [Another, longer, such pause.] America!

And now this.

FRANCE SOFT ON TERRORISM: 'OFFICIAL' COMPLAINT FROM IRAN

TEHRAN June 18, 2006 (AFP) - Iran said Sunday it would fire off an official complaint to France over its decision to lift restrictions on members of the Islamic Republic's main armed opposition group.

"This decision is unacceptable. It is a violation of Paris's responsibility to fight against terrorism," Hamid Reza Asefi [sic] told reporters.

Mr. Assefi is something of the Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf of Iran. Except, though straight-faced and dopey, he is not funny.

"It is a green light to terrorism and violence. We are going to complain to the French," he fumed.

Oh my! Oh my! Complain to the French! M. Douste-Blazy* will faint dead away from all the attention.

A French court on Friday lifted restrictions on 17 members of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) or People's Mujahedeen, imposed following a raid on its headquarters outside Paris three years ago.

The NCRI members were placed under judicial investigation on terrorist-related charges following the July 2003 raid at Auvers-sur-Oise, which critics of the French government said was designed to curry favour in Tehran.

The Iranian fanny has become so twitchy of late, M. Douste-Blazy can no longer reliably find the little Iranian wink on which to plant his gros bisous.
