Not To Die For
It is World Cup Sunday. The finals. Les Bleus vs. Azzurri, blues against blues, sort of monochromachia.
Win or lose, the trick for French fans is to avoid self-extinguishment:
Last night's festivities included some dude getting killed by falling in front of a subway train at Opéra in Paris, a motorcycle passenger dying after the cycle injured 6 other people, a stabbling outside of Paris' Stade Charlety where the France-Portugal match was shown on a big screen, 117 preventive arrests out of 189 potential troublemakers called in by police, one celebratory drowning in Lyon, a fatal stabbing in Montpellier (the victim was a 9-3 hardboy) outside the movie theatre that showed the match live, a 20 year old girl who got killed joy riding on the window of a car in Loison-sous-Lens, one other girl seriously injured after falling off the window of a car in Carpentras, 2 injured police in Deauville who were attacked by celebrating French youths, and an injured newspaper reporter in Dijon who was attacked by celebrating French youths who did not appreciate his photojournalism.
Please support your team responsibly. It's only a game. Tomorrow morning, whatever the outcome, Jack will still be having breakfast chez Élysée. France will still be in the crapper.
