THAILAND WARNS AGAINST TRAVEL TO FRANCE
BANGKOK July 26, 2006 (AFP) - Thailand on Wednesday warned its citizens against non-essential travel to France, after its diplomats suffered a number of violent robberies around Paris."The ministry urges all Thais, both those who reside in Paris and those who want to travel to France, to exercise increased vigilance over their property. Any unnecessary travel should be postponed or cancelled this summer," it said.
"Thieves appear to be targeting Asians for robbery," [Ministry spokesman Songphol Sunkchan] told AFP.
The ministry also issued guidelines for Thais who need to travel to France, advising them to keep their personal possessions with them at all times, to avoid wearing expensive-looking clothing or jewelry, and not to travel alone.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Meanwhile, in the Capital of the Free World...
You miss the point zoomerx. Everyone knows that the USA is a violent deadly place. That's why showing the violence in peaceful, sophisticated Paris is interesting. BTW the reason that DC is such a hazardous place is that it has the strictest gun control laws in the country. Honest citizens are prevented from carrying weapons so criminals have free reign.
Bonjour,
Good luck , Milton , to your country in Irak !!!

Who says Paris doesn't have its share of muggings, pickpockets and automobile thefts?
Honest citizens are prevented from carrying weapons so criminals have free reign.
Ah so let's have a fully armed citizenry and the problem will go away. Japan and Scandinavia have a low violent crime rate, is that due to their "honest citizens" carrying weapons?
"honest citizens are prevented from carrying weapons"
A nice use of irony. You do understand irony, don't you M. Z? No? I didn't think so. Anyway, I thought we were talking about how the Thai gvt didn't trust Frink authorities to protect Thai nationals in Frince
JWC
We have checked in at the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington, D.C.
but found no travel alerts, warnings, or advisories discouraging Thais from visiting America or D.C. Why do they not feel the imminent danger?
Perhaps because "a sudden spike in violent street crime after several years of decline" in D.C. ("Summertime just gets crazy," says Officer Cappello. "I just don't know what it is.") is not the same thing as persistent racial targeting of Asians as crime victims in Paris, the basis of the Thai French travel warning.
But M. Zmx only googles for headlines, he can't be expected to actually skim the reports, much much less read it with some care.
