World's Best Camembert

Among turophiles a visit to France was once a died-and-gone-to-heaven dream. Cheese heaven. The variety. The creaminess. The stinks.

But the world is a big place. And competitive. So while France slouches in her cultural Barcalounger, content to claim she has the best cuisine, the best culinary skills, the best wines, the best cheeses simply because being French makes them so, the world has been busy outpacing tired old France.

TASSIE CAMEMBERT TAKES OUT WORLD CHEESE AWARD

August 10, 2006 (ABC-AU) - A Tasmanian camembert has beaten the country that invented it at a world cheese show in the United States. The winning sample from the National Foods' cheese factory in Burnie was up against 100 entries from all over the world, including the best from France.

Chuffed cheese maker Kurt Wyss says the Tasmanian Heritage Signature Camembert is unlike any other in the world.

It really stands out compared to other camemberts as the flavour is a more fuller, earthier and a really, really creamy texture. It has different bacterias and a different mould on the surface compared to standard camemberts which really brings out different aspects of flavours.

And what France has not lost to complacency she is fast losing to EU rule-makers sanitizing her native food crafts into extinction.

Bonjour,

Good luck to your country in Iraq !!!!!

lol again @ how do you find such things ...

a world cheese show....

i will tomorrow make a world beer show in my appartment that could make budweiser the best beer in the world... that wouldn't make any sense would it ;)

it's not camembert if it's not coming from Camembert in Normandy.

as for the wine.. well...if you think bordeau is the only wine in the world ... specially with this Parker guy only giving 19/20 on shitty stuff with the standard wood taste, if french producers want to export thay have to produce this exactly same wine and have their 19/20...wich reduces the variety of tastes in that kind of wine.

luckyly some resist !

but i must admit california is producing good wines though i like zinfandel (not sure of the spelling)

never tested a Bourgogne (haute cotes de nuit or pommerol)? a Chateauneuf du Pape ? too bad

@lol

Bonjour,

Je me marre !!!!!

"too bad " ???

Non !!!! ""too expensive for you"" !!!

Good luck , dear Milton , to your country in Iraq !!!!!!

Bonjour,

Good luck , dear Milton , to your country in Iraq !!!!!!

I have to disagree on this one. A cheese with wax added to the coating? Smells funky to me :)

From the picture, it clearly looks a lot more like a pasteurized soft-ripped cheese (e.g Caprice des Dieux) than a Camembert. To me, they were comparing apples and oranges.

mon cher AB/AY
