When Dom speaks the immediate question is, what has he said?

WAR NOT ANSWER TO TERRORISM: VILLEPIN

PARIS September 7, 2006 (AFP) - French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin made a sideswipe against US policy Thursday... Speaking before the National Assembly, Villepin said the current crises in the Middle East "are doing the work of the terrorists for them ... We can see it with terrorism: it seeks to strike inside or beyond our borders, grafting itself onto conflicts and exploiting people's suffering."

"Against terrorism, it is not a war that has to be fought, but -- as France has done for years -- a determined struggle based on constant vigilance and effective cooperation with our partners. We will never bring this plague to an end except by also fighting against injustice, violence, against crises."

Does it need pointing out what indefinite passive mush this is?

What is the distinction being made here between abjuring a war on terror and fighting "against injustice, violence, against crises"? The terrorists are certainly clear about waging a war. Acts of terrorism in this war are both unjust and violent. And the terrorist war, globally organized and funded, one might think, qualifies as a crisis. The French position here espoused by Dom is simply meant to put France in opposition to America. Dom can never get enough of that game.

If Dom actually believes his own mush, then we would ask, what is France doing in Afghanistan?
