FRANCE SAYS NORTH KOREAN NUCLEAR TEST
— IF THAT'S WHAT IT WAS — FAILED
PARIS October 11, 2006 (IHT/AP) - France said outright for the first time Wednesday that North Korea's proclaimed nuclear test — if that is what it was — produced such a small blast that it must have failed, and analysts warned that such challenging talk could lead Pyongyang to try again.... France's Defense Minister Michele Alliot-Marie said French, American and other scientists had detected a blast of "relatively limited size."
"In any case, if this was a nuclear explosion, it would be a case of a failed explosion," she said on Europe-1 radio.
Such rising speculation about a dud test could be read as a challenge by Kim Jong Il, the North's reclusive leader, to consider carrying out a second test to prove naysayers wrong, analysts said
Hhmmm, the analysts appear to be correct.

N KOREA: 'SANCTIONS WOULD BE ACT OF WAR'

War!
The Quai d'Orasy issues a clarification of the French position: Ho, no, no, no. Sorry, no sanctions. It's not possible. However France is resolute in its annoyance with North Korea. We are plenty annoyed. Please put us down for "annoyance", not "sanctions".
