Jack jumps in the polls with rocketing support.

CHIRAC SHOULDN'T SEEK THIRD TERM, MOST FRENCH SAY IN SURVEY

October 17, 2006 (Bloomberg) - Almost four French in five don't want President Jacques Chirac, 73, to run for a third term when his term expires in May, a CSA opinion survey showed.

Seventy-seven percent of those polled said they don't want Chirac to seek reelection next year, and 19 percent said he should run, the poll for VSD magazine showed. Among sympathizers of Chirac's governing party, Union for a Popular Movement, 82 percent don't want the president to run.

... A majority also said serious international tensions, a serious national crisis, an improvement in France's economic situation, or difficulties that Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy might face during his campaign wouldn't justify a Chirac candidacy, the poll also showed.

You may recall, last December Jack had transformed an 82% shove into the Élysée into a 1% re-elect Chirac constituency. This latest improvement in his negative numbers may be just the thing that sees Jack back on the hustings.
