Les Indégivrables

The French deep-think cartoon is more than a chuckle. The French dessinateur philosophique presents a deep meditation on the cartoon of French life. Or in the case of the tasteless exhibit below, the throw-away of French life -- those French who do not make the eugenic French cut.

Anti-abortion, Anti-science, Anti-eugenics Pope Penguin:
Embryos, like the handicapped, have the right to some respect.

(You see, already it's hilarious because we all know to laugh at backward sanctity-of-life pontifications by the Pope. And here the Pope is a penguin, which is to say he's cross-dressing as a nun. It is this sort of subtle set-up that heightens the second penguin's profound humanity.)

Enlightened, Progressive, Deep-think Penguin:
I hope the embryos will applaud.

Enlightened, Progressive, Deep-think Penguin:
Though they'll have a tough time.

[Story & translation kick-start hat tip to Joe Noory at ¡No Pasarán!
Special hat tip to Carine for the corrected translation.]

Le Monde has published a whole week's worth of these "Nondefrostibles" by funnyman Xavier Gorce.* Penguins are so cute. And fashionable. Who can object when M. Gorce has them preach his brave new world doctrine?

Harvesting the unborn is so darn cute coming from a penguin.

* The others have little to no deep-think content -- the above exhibit, no doubt, having exhausted M. Groce's deep-think reservoir for the week.

Translation: For them, they'll be sick

Nice try but not quite, Damian. You don't do nuance very well either it seems.

M. Zmx,

If you've a better more accurate translation, we'd appreciate your sharing.

Your sneer doesn't have much bite without your instruction.

Calling the kettle black? So French...

So French...

Aren't you?

Good correction by the way. Don't I get co-credit for pointing out this affront to French culture?

Posted by: zoomerx on December 12, 2006 01:26 AM

M. Zmx,

We do not give co-credits for mere sneers and smugness.

When, as I requested above, you give a better more accurate rendering with your sneer, why, yes, yes, we do. As you may recall, we did so here.

Just so the subtleties are not lost on you, this is the formula: Sneer + improvement = hat tip.

We think you will agree that is fair.

Regards,
DGB

Zoomerx,

Actually, not quite, just sur papiers.
