The Weblog Awards 2006

End of year. Time for the Weblog Awards 2006.

The Weblog Awards is an annual online beauty contest for blogs. It was begun in 2003 and is run by the folks at Wizbang. There are 45 categories this year with up to ten candidate blogs in each category. You may vote in all categories and may vote multiple times in accordnce with a 24-hour rule. After voting in a category you are locked out of that category for 24 hours (running clock time). On repeat votes you may vote the same or for a different blog.

Voting continues till 11:59P (US, EST) December 15, 2006.

Pave only recommends blogs it reads with some regularity. We do not have a reading stake in many categories -- or entire larger topic groupings. We'd not even heard of most of the candidate blogs until today. So recommendations are few. All of which spares you, gentle skimmer, a certain pull of tedium. Where there are two or more worthy blogs in a category, we vote our friends first. If all worthies are friends, we vote the one who has sent the nicest Christmas present [N.B.].

Best Blog, Little Green Footballs (LGF), currently first. We have been reading Charles Johnson's blog since Photoshop releases were the big news posts. Now a daily must-read to keep up with the fast-paced developments in the Caliphate.

We also like Michelle Malkin, Power Line, The Corner (NRO), and Boing Boing (correct link here, wrong link on category page) -- but there aren't enough voting days left for them all. Missing: James Taranto's Best Of The Web Today.

Best Humor Blog, ScrappleFace, currently second. Sadly, no Iowahawk.

Best Comic Strip Blog, Day by Day, currently third. Missing: Achewood.

Best Conservative Blog, Red State, currently a distant seventh. Other worthies: LGF, Michelle Malkin, Power Line -- all making second appearances. Also deserving are Hugh Hewitt, The Jawa Report, Ace of Spades, and Captain's Quarters.

Video Of The Year, something of an odd category, David Zuker Noko-Albright Video, currently a tight fourth (beat out by a single vote). We featured this video in a post here.

Best UK BLog, Samizdata, currently fourth.

Best Euro (Non-UK) Blog, ˇNo Pasarán!, currently third. Other worthies: The Brussels Journal and David's Medienkritik. Missing: Observing Hermann....

And that's it. What? Well, we can't sit around reading blogs all day.

(Where are those French bloggers?)
