'SELF IGNITING' IRAN CARS WORRY POLICE

TEHRAN January 1, 2006 (Tocqueville Connection/AFP) - Hundreds of Iranian-made cars have suddenly caught fire on Iran's roads over the past months, with police pointing to the Peugeot 405 as the main culprit, the press reported Monday.

... "Around 300 people have been killed or wounded and 40 percent of the fatalities were attributed to the Peugeot 405," [traffic police chief Mohammad Rooyanian] told the hardline Kayhan newspaper.

... The Peugeot 405 and other well-known models from the French carmaker have been manufactured under licence since 1990 by Iran Khodro, Iran's largest car manufacturer.

... Iran Khodro's director of marketing Mehdi Ghasem said the problem was an "occasional technical fault in the fuel system" in cars more than two years old and emphasized that vehicles made in this Iranian year had no such fault.

"An 'occasional technical fault in the fuel system'", you see, it's not as if these cars catch fire all the time. You know, just when you drive them.

Ah, M. LOL,

We read the very same thing in the very same article, which we also posted.

A license implies manufacture to a standard set by the licenser. The licenser has an obligation to ensure that standard is met by the licensee.

We note that the French-manufactured Peugot 405 had fuel system recalls in 1989 and 1994.

We're all for a little less hate. Put us down for a lot less hate. That will smooth down M. AB/AY nicely.
