FRANCE'S VILLEPIN AIMS TO CUT
UNEMPLOYMENT TO 6 PCT FROM 8 PCT

PARIS January 8, 2007 (Forbes/AFX) - French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin stated his goal of cutting the country's unemployment rate to 6 pct from the current 8 pct, but did not specify a time frame.

See our earlier post for context.

UNEMPLOYMENT RATE STABLE AT 8.6 PERCENT

PARIS February 27, 2007 (AFP) - The French unemployment rate was stable in January at 8.6 percent, official data showed on Tuesday.

The number of jobseekers increased in January by 1,200 to reach 2.093 million people, but the overall unemployment rate remained the same, data from the French employment ministry showed.

The French government announces a goal of lowering the unemployment rate from 8% to 6%. Contrarily unemployment increases 0.6%. The government reviews the numbers and pronounces the unemployment rate stable. Now that's some magic.

Everything doubleplusgood in France.
