The busiest workers in France are being attacked and eaten!
CHINESE HORNETS WREAKING HAVOC IN FRENCH BEEHIVES
The Accidentally Imported, Super-Aggressive Hornets
Attack And Kill Honeybees, And Could Threaten France's Honey Crop
PARIS April 14, 2007 (Star Tribune) = The hornets are thought to have reached France in 2004 after stowing away on a cargo boat, said Claire Villemant, a lecturer at Paris' Natural History Museum. She said a French bonsai merchant traveled to Yunnan Province in southern China to buy ceramic pots for his trees."He saw the hornets in that region," she said. When he saw them again, they were buzzing around his property in the southwestern French village of Tonneins.
... In France, the Asian hornets have spread quickly, because there are no natural predators in the region. Bigger and bulkier than their European cousins, the hornets have no trouble overcoming honeybees. They ambush beehives and dismember the bees, ripping off their heads, antennae, and wings and reducing them to a paste to feed the hornet queen and her larvae.
China, France's new best friend, has strayed beyond its borders. The Ministère des Affaires étrangères in association with the Ministre de l'emploi, de la cohésion sociale et du logement has tried to arrange a peace conference between the citizen bees and the Chinese hornets, to no avail a government spokesman said.
"The bees they hover around the buffet and the hornets they sting the staff and fly away. We collect them in the mayonnaise jars, but M. le Ministre,* he forget to punch the air holes in the lid and all the representatives, they die. Ah. It is impossible to hold a dialogue for the peace with these insects."
Ségo, who hopes to be France's first woman president, promised if elected France's first woman president to introduce the first anti-Chinese-hornet immigration legislation by a French woman president. Sarko said he wouldn't wait on legislation and spent a day campaigning in Tonneins organizing the locals into hornet posses. M. Bayrou, the only candidate to counsel moderation, said France is welcoming to all insects, but, of course, they mustn't eat the French citizen insects.
No job actions were announced by the citizen bees, who continue to work in adversity. Elsewhere in France, workers not under threat of having their heads torn off faint away from job precarity (and this and this and this and this and this).
