Architectural Digest unveils this year’s AD100 list

Design authority Architectural Digest has released its annual AD100 listing. Originally launched in 1990 as a stand-alone special issue, the AD1OO has evolved into an annual survey of the top names in interior decoration, architecture and landscape design, released in the publication’s January issue. Now entering its fourth decade, this year’s list includes 22 firms from around the globe making their first appearance.

Design firms debuting on the list include Sheila Bridges Design, headed by Sheila Bridges, Designers Today‘s September cover muse; Corey Damen Jenkins & Associates, headed by Corey Damen Jenkins, a previous Designer Experience keynote speaker; Tiffany Brooks Interiors, headed by Illinois-based designer Tiffany Brooks; Kravitz Design, headed by musician Lenny Kravitz; and 18 others. To its AD100 Hall of Fame, Architectural Digest has added six names.

Of note for this AD100 listing is the presence of more people of color, women and firms from a variety of geographical locations.

Amy Astley, editor-in-chief of Architectural Digest,  told Publishers Daily that this year’s list “is the most diverse list we’ve ever produced,” noting that she has made an effort to infuse the list with more diversity during each publication since taking the helm at the magazine four years ago. Astley also noted that “design was like a closed club for a long time,” and that this year’s nationwide dialogue on race and diversity “just accelerated” her push “with everyone on board in the industry and the world.”
