Cold Picnic debuts Goldfish Collection

Submarine is one of Cold Picnic’s rugs from The Goldfish Collection.

Cold Picnic, a home textiles brand by Phoebe Sung and Peter Buer, is introducing The Goldfish, a collection of five rugs based on the 2008 film Ponyo.

The rugs are hand-tufted of New Zealand wool and capture interpretations of the story, which is based loosely on Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Little Mermaid” as well as many Japanese folktales.

“Inspired by the 2008 Hayao Miyazaki film Ponyo, the five hand-tufted rugs in this collection are our attempt to capture some of the playfulness, strangeness and innocence of both that film and raising a young child under quarantine,” Sung and Buer explained, noting that the rugs are part of Cold Picnic’s 2021 lookbook.

The lookbook continues Cold Picnic’s exploration of homes they love under quarantine, styled by their owners and filled with its rugs. For instance, rugs from The Goldfish were shot in the home of Katarina Matsson, managing editor of Elle Decoration Sweden.
